Two identical vessels each of height 36 cm are filled with water and oil each to a height 27 cm. A thin U tube equipped with a valve at its centre is filled with water and the valve is closed. The tube is held vertically and lowered in the vessels until its open ends reach a depth 18 cm in each liquid as shown in the figure. Density of water is 1.0 g/cc and that of oil is 0.8 g/cc. At what heights will the water and the oil levels settle in the vessels after the valve is opened ?
