In this short video, I show you the brushes I use to smooth fairways and terrain.
This is the method I use, there is no hard and fast rule about this it's just a case using your judgement and creative eye. This is something that should be unique to you and makes your courses your own, consider it your signature so that others will recognise your style and technique. All the good course designers do this.
Remember to always check your field of view from the players perspective it may look good at first glance, but when you get down to ground level it may not feel right, you'll know what I mean when you've done this long enough. Always check and check it again.
It's important that you playtest from every tee and pin. If you put the effort and time into it, players will notice it, so make sure you spend time on it, never rush it even though it may be tempting to do so.
I have been asked before how I come up with my designs, and my answer as always has been, I let the terrain determine it for me, I try and make use of natural features and terrain, tweaking it here and there until I get the look and feel that I'm after.
