In this part, it looks like the trial has come to an impasse, with a witness who refuses to testify. Phoenix demands that the trial continue, because the kidnapper said Maya would not be released if the trial didn't end in one day.
Edgeworth comes up with a way for the trial to continue: by having the witness testify about a totally unrelated topic. She speaks about finding the victim's body, and she claims she thought he was sleeping at the time.
Phoenix objects that it is really unlikely she thought he was sleeping, seeing as he had a knife sticking out of his chest. He accuses her of murder once again, and she gets very, very nervous.
Phoenix is given a choice--stop the trial now by demanding a not guilty verdict, or press further and try to find out what the witness is hiding.
