* IMPORTANT: In the SETUP you can uncheck the default COMFORT MODE, this will reduce the black vignette on yaw and pitch and introduce a bit more of roll. I personally are very sensitive to motion sickness (as are the QA testers for VR from SONY), so I made the game as safe as possible. But to make a video of the game maybe it would be better to use the mode with less vignette effect
Sooo… Pirate Flight (VR) was created to be the most casual flying game for VR, no complex controls, no landings, no hard-to-master flight physics - just instant fun, a mixture of Nintendos famous „Pilotwings“ and the Balloon-Battle in „Mario Cart“. Big names, yes, well, I’m a fan.
The game is completely optimized for VR performance, I was able to achieve a framerate of stable 90 FPS, this is essential for a flying game to counter simulator sickness (but most PS VR games only can do 60 FPS, e.g. the great Ultrawings – and it’s really great! – only does 60 FPS on the base PS4 console).
The game is a self-financed 100% Indie title, I do everything (design, coding, art, publishing, whatever) alone at night when the kids are sleeping (during the day I work as a CTO for a startup).
I hope you like it. I wouldn’t dare to compare it to all these awesome AAA titles for PS4, and most of the other Indies (who are already financed at least in part by bigger companies and the get publishing support) are creating incredibly cool games, too. But I still hope there will be a few VR gamers out there who like a few minutes of easy flying with Pirate Flight (VR).
And just one more short note:
It seems not everyone is happy with the blinders in Pirate Flight (VR). I put them in because Sony insisted, because of simulator sickness - I had to go a few rounds with the Sony VR Consultation team to get everything right the way they want it.
But yes, I should listen to the demand of seasoned PlayStation®VR gamers out there and remove the VR blinders for them. So this is what I will do:
I will push an update as soon as possible (with all the Sony QA review cycles) where if you uncheck the Comfort Mode in the SETUP there are no blinders at all and where I put in a flight model that is a bit more hardcore (more roll in turns).
