Shalom!

Welcome, Ladies and Gentlemen, Comrades - Internets, to the next video test of EasyCAP Video Grabber. This film is an additional test of PS2 gameplay footage captured via the device, modified to meet 1080p FULL HD quality standards. This time however, there has been a slight, yet crucial change made.

For recent time, I've been making several attempts to find an applicable video format system, that's capable of achieving a decent visual quality within a small overall size of the final file. Because I use Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 10.0, so far the main format, which has been mostly used for rendering my videos, was the WMV [Windows Media Video] (yes, you may laugh at it). I considered this option to be an outstanding alternative to work with (compared to AVI or MPG), for its easy usage and high quality production values. There are couple of issues though, which I'd like to point out in two:
1. The higher quality, the bigger file's size, which for (ekhm) "not so bad and not so good" internet connection speed, it takes a huge part of the day to upload;
2. It's works perfectly with videos up to 720p standard. With higher standards, it may be a pain in the ass. Also, more ambitious projects - infinitesimal probabilty the video will be eventually rendered (even with few little helpful settings implemented).
That being said, WMV format has a lot of flaws, that in terms of 1080p require both a lot of luck and patience to overcome them. One group of problems can be solved, another group cannot and this unfortunatelly makes the format less than promising and considerable. Few of issues may be bypassed through certain compromises though, but the fact they must be implemented sometimes, becomes another disadvantage to the format (the previous test is an example of few compromises made, although I'm not going to tell, which one are those...). Nevertheless, it's still a good video rendering system to operate with, as long as it's not planned to make the video in 1080p standard that is...

And here comes the aforementioned change, which is the MP4 video format system. I've already managed to gain some experience with its usefulness, while preparing couple of 1080p videos from various PC games. As soon as I learned about format's advantages, which I mentioned in the beginning, I started wondering, what an EasyCAP footage would look like if it was prepared with use of almost exactly same settings (the only difference was "Frames Per Second" speed, set to 25). The video test above is an answer, hence, the time has come for a little comparison.

The Sony Vegas' WMV always tends to brighten up and lose on the video's contrast centre a bit, after its final compression. Despite the fact, it actually allows to save its original fluency and smoothness, the video becomes slightly blank towards the end. For MP4, this issue doesn't seem to occur, thereby, the colours and contrast are kept within their primary parameters. Another problem is final file's size. One of WMV's inconsistencies is, that the eventual size often seems to be unproportional to overall quality of the video, being always bigger than it should in the end (most likely due to filters used in the editing stage). On the contrary, MP4 actually allows to save on the size enormously (however it may depend on the parameters set during edition), which makes possible to save on HDD space and time simultaneosly. There are two issues noticeable in the side of MP4 however. First is the overall rendering time, that is significantly longer compared to WMV, no matter the screen/quality standard. Secondly, it doesn't always keep the fluency of the video, that includes raw footage being massively upscaled and many filters attached synchronously. Hence, only VARIANT #2 (watch the previous video test) is used.

Having said all that, I leave you with another EasyCAP Video Grabber video test. I hope you'll enjoy it. Also, stay tuned for more similar videos, as those are coming soon. Thanks for watching and your support.
