Playthrough: "Hitchcock, The Final Cut" part 1/7
Playlist: • Playthrough: "Hitchcock, The Final Cut."
This is the 2nd game of Arxel Tribe, made with the engine of their first combined 2D/3D-effort; Casanova (check it out here: • Playthrough: "Casanova: The Duel of t... )
Still, it feels less sophisticated on the graphical side, compared to their earlier efforts. This time, no moving clouds or water for example.
It was supposed to be an hommage to the movies of Alfred Hitchcock. As a fan of "The Master of Suspense" I have to say; it's not that great. Sometimes, references to his movies are too vague for the average player and other times it's far from subtle. As ever with an Arxel Tribe game; dialogue is sharply written. The rest is...not great, not bad. The gimmick of the talking bird never worked for me. But I always liked the pre-rendered backgrounds. I don't like the 3D-models, but thought the plot was interesting enough. I don't like the music, but still love the overall atmosphere. In short; it's a frustrating game, because it's such a mixed bag.

TECHNICAL NOTES
* My CD-ROM-player is way too noisy. It spins too fast for games which constantly have to search for files while playing. So I mounted my original CD's.
* I think some kind of copy-protection went into this game, because it wouldn't start when mounted. Only when using the original CD's.
* Luckily, the game is without rightful copyright-owner nowadays. It's made compatible for new PC's on the "Collection Chamber's" blog. My thanks goes to him! Try it yourself: https://collectionchamber.blogspot.co...
* Played it on a Windows 10 system and used Nvidia Inspector to lock frames on 30 fps, because of my experiences with gameplay-glitches on Arxel Tribe's last 2D/3D game "Ring II", when the fps were too high.
