"Pilgrim" was Arxel Tribe's first adventure-game back in 1998. The story is a rough adaptation of Paulo Coelho's book "The Pilgrimage." Comic-artist Moebius (Jean Giraud) made designs for it, but to be honest; the translation from drawing to 3D isn't convincing. But together with the fitting music, the game still creates a nice atmosphere and looks allright for it's time but nothing special. The puzzles are okay to downright unforgiving. Death lurks around every corner in the end and the primitive interface doesn't help players. The story got me, but it gets very philosophical in the middle of the game and after that the journey gets much more symbolical. I can imagine people may find this part boring and nonsensical.
STORY-NOTES (out of the Manual)
In the year of Our Lord 1208, somewhere in troubled early 13th century Languedoc, Marc, a Templar Knight, has returned from the Crusades with a Coptic manuscript which might be the Lost Gospel of Saint John.
During his voyage, Marc stumbles into an ambush. Seriously injured, he arrives in a small village and gives the manuscript to Adalard de Lancrois, the head of a secret order called "The Tradition."
Shortly thereafter, Adalard falls ill and, on his death bed, asks his youngest son Simon to carry the manuscript to one if his friends, Petrus who dwells in Toulouse.
Meanwhile, Pope Innocent III sends the inquisitor Diego d'Osma to track down the precious document. For Simon and Petrus, a dangerous race against time has begun...

TECHNICAL NOTES
* I played this game by using PCEM (v.15) with "Windows 95" installed on it.
* All the other options (Dosbox with Windows 3.1 installed on it, or Windows 98 on VirtualBox) gave me lots of sound- / save-problems and PCem just did the trick!
