The Amber Spyglass (2000) is the final book in Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy. Following The Golden Compass and The Subtle Knife, it continues the journey of Lyra and Will as they battle the oppressive Magisterium and attempt to save multiple universes. As Lyra is held captive by her mother to protect her from a deadly prophecy, Will escapes using the subtle knife and teams up with allies including armored bears, angels, and physicist Mary Malone—who discovers the amber spyglass and the life-giving substance called Dust. Together, they journey to the world of the dead, confront divine powers, and witness the deaths of Asriel and Mrs. Coulter as they defeat the tyrannical angel Metatron. Ultimately, Lyra and Will must part forever to preserve their worlds, but vow to remember each other. The novel won numerous awards and was the first children’s book nominated for the Booker Prize.
