Pluto Short pt 1 #space #physics #science
Pluto is a dwarf planet located in the Kuiper Belt, a region of the outer solar system that is home to many icy objects. It was discovered in 1930 by American astronomer Clyde Tombaugh. It was considered the ninth planet in our solar system until 2006 when the International Astronomical Union reclassified it as a dwarf planet. Pluto is very small, with a diameter of only about 1,400 miles (2,377 kilometers), making it smaller than many moons in our solar system. It’s surface is composed of nitrogen ice, methane ice, and carbon monoxide ice, with smaller amounts of water ice and other materials. Pluto has a very eccentric orbit that takes it from about 2.7 billion miles (4.4 billion kilometers) at its farthest from the sun to about 2.8 billion miles (4.5 billion kilometers) at its closest.
