Zubat. Just the very mention of this Generation I Pokemon's name brings up bad memories for most players. A rather annoying staple of cave areas in the Pokemon games since Red and Blue, Zubat has become infamous in the Pokemon fandom for being one of the most annoying Pokemon to encounter on your journey. Between its tendency to sap your life with Leech Life and confuse you with Supersonic, to its high-pitched, screeching Pokemon cry upon being encountered, to its absurdly high encounter rate in most caves (meaning you're going to have to deal with those first two annoyances A LOT), I don't think it's a stretch to call Zubat one of the most notorious Pokemon ever.
But why? Why does Zubat have to be one of the most annoying, most frustrating, and most frequently-encountered 'Mons in pretty much any given region? Why can't you take two steps in Mt. Moon without hearing that Zubat screech ringing in your ears? Why do you have to stock up on Repels before you even THINK of entering a cave for fear of these poisonous bat Pokemon swarming you like mad?
Well, little YouTube viewer, what if I told you that the Repels, the very item you're using to keep the Zubat hordes away...actually play a very big part as to why there are so many Zubat in the first place? Seems shocking, I know. Bizarre, you might say. Irrational, even. Maybe so, but that doesn't mean I'm not going to try my best to convince you, through what little evidence, coincidence, and conjecture I can muster up, that the frequency of Zubats, the need for Repels, and Silph Co. (the company that MAKES Repels), are all VERY much connected.
So, strap on your tin foil hat and get ready to draw some triangles in Microsoft Paint, because it's time for a Pokemon Conspiracy Theory!
