Before I started Lapis Cave, I did the Dark and Fighting Maze.
Dark Maze:
It is recommended to do this after Great Canyon. The Poochyena are easy, but if you leave them with low hp, they will run away because of their ability, Run Away. The Murkrows aren't that hard either. The only problems with them is that Astonish can make you flinch and they can use Pursuit to counter physical moves.

Fighting Maze:
It is actually recommended to do this dungeon after shockingly a dungeon called Buried Relic, which is after you beat the main story. The Hitmonlee are at level 22, and that's really your only threat here.

Lapis Cave: Now it's time for the actual dungeon. This dungeon focuses mainly on Poison-type Pokémon, so if your started was Cubone or Diglett, this dungeon shouldn't be a problem. The only annoying thing here are the Nidorino and Nidorina Poison Point ability, which means you have a chance of getting poisoned if you make contact with it. Also what doesn't make sense is that the Golbat are 7 levels lower than the Zubat. XD
