Nuzlocke rules are as follows:

1) Any Pokémon that faints is considered dead, and must be released or put in the PC permanently.
2) I may only catch the first Pokemon encountered in each area. If I fail to capture it, I do not get another chance.
3) I must nickname all of my Pokemon.

The following exceptions and optional rules are in effect:

1) The challenge does not officially begin until I have received pokeballs for the first time.
2) If I have already caught the species of Pokemon that appears as my first encounter in an area, I may choose to defeat it or run away and catch a different Pokemon instead. This applies for the entire evolutionary line of any individual Pokemon.
3) Shinies may always be caught and used, regardless of other rules. However, if a caught shiny faints, it is still considered dead.
4) Pokemon obtained via special in-game events, trading with NPCs, or other nontraditional methods do not count as an encounter, and may be obtained regardless of other rules.
5) Legendaries are not considered encounters and may be caught, but may not be used on the team.
6) The normal rules do not apply to HM slaves, but they may not participate in battle.
