Pokémon Snap "Nuzlocke" Challenge Part 1 - Being Trigger Happy Is No Good
I came up with this idea sometime last year, but wasn't sure if I could making it challenging enough to be worth doing. Well, I suddenly needed a back up plan and the sequel for Pokémon Snap is coming out at the end of the month, so let's just see how this goes. The idea revolves around the idea of a normal Pokémon Nuzlocke challenge. That is how there are no second chances with catching Pokémon. So to use that idea, I am allowing myself to take only one picture of each Pokémon I haven't taken a picture of and only one chance at taking that shot of each Pokémon. The only limiting factors in this game are obtaining the items that let you interact with Pokémon to get more pictures, open hidden paths, and find the Pokémon Signs. These are handed out based on your overall score. In addition some of the stages are unlocked based on the number of unique Pokémon shots taken. Most guides for the game seem to be very confused about this. Simply you need 40 different Pokémon to unlock the Valley and you need a total score of 130,000 points to unlock the Pokémon Flute. You complete the challenge when you submit a picture of Mew. I think that this is still going to wind up being somewhat easy to do still, but let's see how it goes. I will be reviewing the rules I've made and any changes I would want to make to them after I either complete or fail this challenge.
Let's go into the specifics for the rules:
1. The tutorial pictures are to be complete ignored and not used. Run doesn't start until afterwards.
2. Only one shot of each Pokémon may be attempted. Even if the shot fails to capture the Pokémon another shot may not be taken for that Pokémon.
3. If the requirements for taking a picture of a Pokémon are met during a trip to a course, a picture of that Pokémon must be made during that trip. No pictures may be attempted on that Pokémon on subsequent visits to that course.
4. If a Pokémon has already had its picture taken in a previous course (or a chance to take its picture), it cannot be taken in the new course.
5. When obtaining a new item, any new Pokémon in previous courses that become available must immediattely be dealt with. You cannot wait for an additional item to be unlocked before returning to take those pictures.
6. Pokémon Signs have the same rule of only having one chance to take the shot once they become available (starting after the trip to the Valley that unlocks them).
7. You may take multiple trips to activate hidden exits for unlocking courses.
8. Challenge is completed when a Mew photo is submitted (completion of any%).
Note: You need 40 different Pokémon pictures to unlock the Valley. You need an overall score of 130,000 points to unlock the Pokémon Flute. This is where most of the difficulty of this challenge comes from.
I will talk about any revisions to this rule set at the end of this challenge (sucess or failure). My desire is to make the challenge difficult enough to be able to fail the challenge. If I easily complete the challenge I will think about ways to make it harder. If I fail the challenge due to the required unlocks being unreachable, I will think about ways to make the challenge doable.
