Polynomial 2 is the successor of 'The Polynomial - Space of the music' and is an Indie space shooter developed by Dmytry Lavrov. It's available on the PC and Linux. It's currently in early access but is expected to be finished in around 8 months. The game's visuals were so impressive it actually made me wish I had an HTC Vive or an Oculus rift so I could get the full experience. This game definitely deserves to be on a top 10 vr games for PC 2016 list somewhere because at the time of writing I've never seen such impressive visuals in a space game before.

FAQ:
Why Early Access?
“We have been working on a sequel to The Polynomial: Space of the Music for several years. We have done a major overhaul from the first game to expand and improve the gameplay, Polynomial 2 is looking better than ever, and we finally added VR support. Virtual reality is supported through SteamVR/OpenVR, and works for both HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.

Early Access is the perfect tool for us to polish our game. Because the game uses a custom engine and is highly graphics driven, compatibility testing is important to discover and fix bugs. Early Access allows us crucial feedback before releasing the full version which means we can put out the most complete game and reach the most players possible.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?
“We hope to release within 8 months, but we want to first ensure that we have addressed customer feedback.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?
“The full version of the game will have a longer campaign. The gameplay is what we plan on tweaking the most. After playing the game so much while developing, it is difficult to imagine playing for the first time as a new user. We are also going to be implementing more weapons and more enemies. We are working on enhancing the enemy AI and behaviors.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?
“The game currently has 1~2 hours of campaign gameplay, as well as a survival mode with automatic spawning. There's an indefinitely big starfield with fractals scattered through it. There are 4 guns and 5th and 6th are due to be added soon. The rendering is about as good as it can get, with multiple millions of stars visible on the screen. Virtual reality is supported through SteamVR/OpenVR, and works for both HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.

There is in-game music visualization to the game's own soundtrack, your music files, or the music being played on your computer by other applications. You can also turn off all HUD, and fly through the universe while the fractals shine and pulse away to the beat, and you can capture screenshots at an arbitrary resolution (could be higher than your display resolution, typically up to 8192x8192 albeit very high end graphics cards may be able to handle more). The engine supports Lua scripting and modded or new levels can be created by those so inclined. We have native Steam controller and Xbox controller support.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?
“The game is discounted during Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?
“The Community is absolutely vital to our success. We are hoping users will provide productive feedback and bug reports.”
