Pop OS Cosmic Desktop from System 76!! Preview Cosmic Desktop today.
We'll take a look at the newly introduced Cosmic Desktop from System 76 and figure out what changes have been made since Pop OS 20.04 / 20.10. We'll also review and install Cosmic Desktop on Pop OS 20.04 / 20.10. Cosmic Desktop is GNOME based and mainly takes advantage of GNOME extensions to give you a better overall Desktop Environment according to the Pop! OS community.
Pop OS 20.10 is an Ubuntu based Linux distribution that comes with a fairly minimal desktop environment that includes the basics to get you started. They also have made it super easy to install Nvidia Proprietary drivers on to the system while going through their installer which is a great thing since it can take extra time to get those drivers installed and working properly. They also have a window tiling manager built in and a search dialog called launcher that you can bring up and search for items on Pop OS quickly and efficiently.
Pop OS focuses on privacy, supplying a minimal desktop environment, and packing their system full of practical packages that have access to to start developing applications with various languages right away. Itβs very lightweight and easy to install. Their default desktop environment is GNOME and it is a Ubuntu based distribution which lends it a great community for support.
