What is Cube 2 Sauerbraten?

Cube 2 Sauerbraten is a fast-moving and brutal free first-person shooter which supports a huge number of game modes, including single-player mode and also still supported by a faithful community. Cube 2 is a continuation of the Cube Engine project, with an improved graphic and other components.

At the time of its release, the project had excellent graphics and effects, and quite good reflections, shadows, high-quality lighting maps, shaders, and so on. You will be surprised, but the game still has an active community, with organized weekly tournaments and challenges.

A special feature of Cube 2 Sauerbraten is that it is free and that this open source shooter is licensed under zlib with the possibility of commercial use, not least thanks to the business partner of the developer, Dot3 Labs. Assets distributed with this shooter have different licenses, most of which are not free. The main paradigm of Cube 2 is not the maximum possible number of functions and the availability of advanced graphics, but the provision of the ability to edit maps in real time with other players in the game, while keeping the source code of the engine as minimalistic as possible and elegant at the same time.
