Previa Twin Loop Muffler + Resonator Comparisons
1991 Toyota Previa 5spd MT
The Previa is a loud machine with a straight through exhaust, mainly in part because the exhaust is short thanks to the mid engine layout. I've tried N1 style muffler, which was way too loud. Then I put on a Twin Loop (Mugen Style) Muffler on and it quieted and calmed it down a lot. It didn't sound as raw. The sound is great when driving around town but once you hit the freeway and start hauling some serious loads it gets loud and droney. I installed a tuneable silencer which helped a lot but still loud underload not good for long trips. So the last thing I can really try is to install another muffler or resonator in the exhaust. I installed a Sebring resonator I got from Pick n Pull for $5 (half off day). It had helped to calm it down some more and produce a smoother sound. It helps keep the interior noise less as well. The Sebring resonator is also a straight through perforated core so I don't lose flow.
1st clip- Twin Loop Muffler no Silencer
2nd clip - Twin Loops Muffler + Sebring Resonator
3rd clip - Twin Loop Muffler + Sebring resonator + Silencer vanes OPEN
4th clip - Twin Loops Muffler + Sebring resonator + Silencer vanes CLOSED
My goal was to to have a van that sounds great and performs great without the silencer and with the silencer it will sound near stock. For the most part it is right where I want it.
