Mafia II: Definitive Edition on Linux (Proton/Steamplay)

Use the latest proton version (5.07)

* set the following start option in steam: PROTON_DUMP_DEBUG_COMMANDS=1 %command%
* start game. it won't work, but it creates the needed debug file
* navigate to this directory: /tmp/proton_{username}
* edit the file "run"
** line 4 should start with 'cd'. remove last part "Mafia2Launcher" so the line looks like:
cd "/{yourPathToSteam}/steamApps/common/Mafia II Definitive Edition/pc"
** line 5 should start with 'DEF_CMD'. change the launcher exe to the game exe so it looks like:
DEF_CMD=("/{yourPathToSteam}/steamApps/common/Mafia II Definitive Edition/pc/Mafia II Definitive Edition.exe")
* save file
* replace the Launcher exe with this bash script. maybe create a backup of the launcher first:
mv "/{yourPathToSteam}/steamapps/common/Mafia II Definitive Edition/pc/Mafia2Launcher/Launcher.exe" "/{yourPathToSteam}/steamapps/common/Mafia II Definitive Edition/pc/Mafia2Launcher/Launcher.exe.bak"
cp run "/{yourPathToSteam}/steamapps/common/Mafia II Definitive Edition/pc/Mafia2Launcher/Launcher.exe"

Now you can start Mafia 2 Definitiv Edition in Steam.


To change the game language to german, edit the following file:
/{yourPathToSteam}/steamapps/compatdata/1030830/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/My Games/Mafia II Definitive Edition/Data/profiles/76561198043139856/settings.xml

In line 6 change node "Settings - Game - Language" from
"english" to "german"


To fix performance issues:
* Vsync off
* Frame Rate Limit: Unlimited
