This video shows all the steps required to obtain the Q-Beam weapon in Prey (it's a powerful energy gun). The weapon is located in Beams & Waves Lab in Hardware Labs, but you can't get there right away. Instead you must explore Talos I Exterior and it's best to do that while completing "Through a Glass Darkly" main mission. Fly towards where you locate Dr. Calvino's body. There's a broken control panel there. Use the Repair skill on it and then go back to Hardware Labs. You may now access Beams & Waves Lab. Interact with the console and unlock the firing range with the Q-Beam weapon (you may use it to kill a Phantom first, but it's optional).
