Project CARS 3 TUNING TUTORIAL PART 4: Dampers, Bump and Rebound | Setup Guide
Bump Damping and Rebound Dampers are a dark art to most sim racers and a complete mystery to many, so this tutorial video will explain to you not just what dampers are (AKA shock absorbers), but how to tune them for all cars in Project CARS 3 and other games.
Dampers are made up of pistons that sit inside of small cylinders filled with oil. They sit next to each suspension spring in a car and act as a buffer to either slow down or speed up the movement of the springs whilst going over bumps, braking, accelerating and turning.
To put it simply: adjusting the springs will determine how far the springs can squeeze before bouncing back to their normal state under load. Adjusting dampers will determine how fast the springs actually move (or better said, react) to inputs on the road. This is mainly for helping the car handle itself better over big kerbs and bumps, as you need the springs to compress and rebound at the right speed to maintain steady contact with the road again whilst going over bumps, kerbs and chicanes.
Thanks for watching my video guides on Project CARS 3 and Forza Motorsport 7. I care about helping fellow racers improve their lap times, race craft and consistency through high quality guides. Tell me what you think in the comments below!
