Made with two Ikea ALEX cabinets (grey-turquoise variant) and a large, rough cut of a B&Q worktop surface. It might not appear so at first glance, but the choice to lock the cabinets with the desktop using the supplied Ikea cam dowels made for a very solid build.

This took 5.5 hours to build in the footage you see (with half an hour at a friend's house rough-cutting the rear recess the night before, and another hour the following day adding edging tape to the sides). The footage has been cut down to about 10 minutes for your viewing pleasure.

I wouldn't sell this desk to anyone (a professional with better tools would do a much, much better job), but it was definitely worth the effort - and, more than a year on, is still perfect for my needs.

The cost of the two cabinets and worktop slice is currently £213 (£75 per Ikea cabinet, £63 for a 2.4m-long worktop chunk from B&Q, cut to 1.6m for the desk). The components were a little cheaper in October 2021 when this footage was first recorded.
