Project Wingman VR - First Impressions (Part 1 - Had some streaming issues)
13Project Wingman is an arcade combat flight game very much in the style of the extremely popular Ace Combat series of games, that get right to the action as fast as possible without you having to spend vast amounts of time in learning every last technical detail before you can take the controls and feel like you are an ace fighter pilot. We are talking fastpaced action set alongside a narrative story, a thrilling joy ride set in the sky’s where you play a pivotal role.
As a game genre this is a rarity, there are very few games that attempt to bring realistic looking equipment, along with sci-fi plotlines and engaging gameplay, as it’s a hard target to hit! With Ace Combat serving as the thus far undisputed king of the crop Project Wingman has set it’s sights high and locked on to the top spot, and unlike AC7 that only managed to bring 4 missions to VR along with some concessionary VR content, Project Wingman has the whole game available to play in VR! So this is setting it’s self up to be what many have been crying out a number of years for, a full VR fighter jet experience that is more than a tech demo, something that anyone can jump into for hours of hart pumping excitement, will it manage to soar high above or will Project Wingman crash and burn on the deck like others before it? Time to strap into the pilots set, take control and see!
My negatives with the game are just about menus and lack of being able to bind menu navigation to my HOTAS as well, once in a mission and in the air its looking good, controls are responsive, early impression without knowing the full length of gameplay is positive, I was starting to feel that it was drawing me in more, that it's all in VR is much to its benefit, for VR wannabe pilots Project Wingman could have AC7 beat!
