This is a pretty fun and badass open world that originally came out in 2009. I got the PS3 version back then and I still got that. I'm sad that Activision hasn't made a remasterred version of this and the second one. I also got this game and the sequel on PS4 so I might livestream that later in the future. It's a fun hack and slash open world action game similar to Just Cause and Saints Row. This game actually has more in common with the Infamous games. You play as Alex Mercer who got infected with the Black Light Virus that startes spreading across the city infecting everyone as well. In the process he gained super human abilities like shapeshifting, super human strength, super human speed and other abilities like consuming others human or infected and gaining their memories. I remember playing this game called Prototype way back in 2009. This game was developed by Radical Interactive a now defunct and closed game company. This game was published by Activision I remember getting the PS3 version and I still got that same version to this day. I later got the PC version which is similar but you can adjust the options. The game is also available on Steam and PSN store for the PS4 PlayStation. The story is about this amnesiac shapeshifter named Alex Mercer. He got infected with the Blacklight Virus that started spreading across Manhattan in New York. Alex gained shapeshifting powers, super human strength, super human speed, and other abilities from the Blacklight Virus. Everyone else that got infected started turning into zombie like creatures of different kinds. Some are mutant like with super human strength and also super human speed while some are just disfigured masses of flesh. Alex learns more about what happened to himself as he absorbs more people which gives him the ability to gain their memories and learn about what happened. The game is an open world sandbox style game similar to something like the Saints Row over the top games and maybe some Marvel games like the Hulk ones and the Spider-Man games. It's pretty fun to just go crazy and go all out berserk on everyone both infected, the humans and the military in this game. You can also go stealth mode by shapeshifting into the person you last absorb or consumed. There is a sequel to this game called Prototype 2 but you play as James Heller who also became similar to Alex Mercer. He wants revenge against Alex Mercer though for the death of his family from the outbreak cause by the Blacklight Virus. I hope that someday Activision makes a third game with a new story and new gameplay for next gen. That would be cool! The story and universe in the Prototype franchise is more relevant now than ever with the whole virus pandemic so it makes perfect sense to make a third game! It would be cool if they expand upon the story and give the graphics some new and better upgrades. With the newer game engines and more powerful processing power that they have nowadays with consoles and PC it's obvious that they need to utilize that technology for a new Prototype game. I also think that this franchise would make a really good live action movie! It would be so badass if that happens!
