You can always tell a Xander transition. Usually, editors are like "ok, now we crossfade to this angle of the dead noobs", but Xander's all up in your stuff like "now we're here... BUT THEN OH SNAP FWOOSH, WE'RE OVER HERE! and now we're... OVER HERE!" I love it. In all seriousness, the editing in this montage was superb. It's an excellent example of editing that keeps the gameplay in the spotlight, while still somehow managing to steal the show. To me, a montage is successful when the viewer always knows what's going on - you get a lot of videos where the editor obviously forgot that nobody else has seen the clips a million times. Then, they don't clarify the things that need to be clarified, and we're left to stumble through the video saying "wait... was that a naire or a double kill?" That definitely wasn't the case here, I followed it all the way through, and as a result, appreciated the gameplay so much more. The song choice was also good because its slow sections let me relax, process the flurry of multikills I just witnessed, and prepare for the next one. In the painting world, this is called a 'rest spot'. This is when artists deliberately leave a plain area on an otherwise busy piece so that observers can have a place to rest their eyes. Beautiful work, Xander. I guess you're too cool for end credits, but I can deal with that.

The gameplay is epic in equal proportions. Halo 4 brings us a new breed of montaging - long, glamorous multikills. Lift-shot killionaires (spoiler alert). I like the way that PH seems unphased by whether is enemies are flying, in vehicles, or sprinting away from him. He continues to smite them down methodically. The clips themselves don't vary much - there was only one clip that did not involve a sniper rifle, and only one clip that wasn't Infinity Slayer. Not a particularly bad thing in my opinion, a montage like this is supposed to be pretty standard. A break from KOTH is always nice, too.
