Due to Socom 2's age and video quality this video features the similar game Socom 3 gameplay footage for a lot of this review, but the video does illustrate the differences. Basically brightness and draw distance make it difficult for me to have used Socom 2 video in a way that would be watchable. There is some though.

Socom 2 on the PS2 was the best 3rd person shooter. Ratchet and Clank had a good multiplayer with nobody playing it and Delta Force: Black Hawk Down was also good, but Socom 2 is the best PS2 (and even now) multiplayer 3rd person shooter.

The corporate handling of this video game franchise is no less interesting either. The story of how a large fan base grew to like the game and then be sold something totally different nearly every time. Be akin to Ford selling the Mustang, or Jeep selling the Jeep and then saying they no longer want to make cars. Socom just stopped being made leaving fans to be strung along over the years by the corporate marketing department and developers. The Socom brand is all that is and has been sold as a game and that brand is now I am going to say worthless to the fans and as a game.

It is not now available or playable on any Sony PlayStation 2 or 3 supported console servers. NOT A SINGLE SOCOM! NOTHING. There are about 100 Socom multiplayer maps. 100! All the maps and modes and server updates all for nothing, just a quick way to make a buck. The corporate handling of this video game franchise is beyond interesting. It's an odd decades long business fail that only manages to continue to piss players off and get odder and odder as time passes, instead of better and better as it should have. Nobody now or in the future can or will understand why the Socom 4 characters move like that.

All they had to do was make a Socom game, and that is all they did was to make a Socom game cause of the brand name players would buy it, but the quality and heritage the developers let go of just to try to make something different for the box and trailer, even though it was not what players wanted and ultimately unplayable; as the series of games now sits - all of them lost to history.
