The Couch Knights continue to witness Spencer's combat prowess through the Viridian city gym. But one of his opponents have some obvious kinks that are better left behind closed doors. Oh and Spencer refuses to lay of the Canadian swears.

Welcome to The Couch Knights' first Pokemon let's play, dubbed Pokemon Rivals. I know what you're thinking, "there is no Pokemon game with that title!" and you'd be right. Pokemon Rivals is going to be a tandem let's play of Pokemon Fire Red and Pokemon Soul Silver. Since these titles were the remakes of their first Pokemon games (Spencer's being Pokemon Red, and TJ's being Pokemon Silver), they wanted to do something unique for this let's play.

So every new episode, the focus will shift back and forth from Spencer playing Fire Red and TJ Playing Soul Silver, and at certain intervals, a third game will be used to pit our trainers' teams against each other.

There is a restriction as to what Pokemon are allowed on a team like no legendaries and that a trainer can only use Pokemon from their respective generation, (with a few exceptions like Eevee in order to get Umbreon etc.).

Pokemon Fire Red was released in North America on September 9th in 2004 alongside it's alternate version, Pokemon Leaf Green. These games were the first remakes in the Pokemon series, using the same characters, locations, and challenges with the engine and style of their other series 3 (not gen 3) games, Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald. The original version, Pokemon Red was released with it's alternate version Pokemon Blue on (prepare to feel old) September 28th in 1998. These games, though released near the end of the original Game Boy's lifetime, rapidly became the best selling-games for the Gam Boy and one of the best-selling RPG titles of all time, bringing in the first generation of Pokemon trainers.

Pokemon Soul Silver and it's counterpart, Pokemon Heart Gold, were released to North America on March 25th 2010. These titles are remakes of the 2nd gen Pokemon games Silver and Gold. Like the first remakes, these titles were released after and made using the same engine as the other series 4 games. The original Pokemon Silver was released to North America along with the original Pokemon Gold on October 15 in the year 2000. These titles added a few interesting mechanics such as the poke gear, shiny pokemon, and Pokemon breeding, as well as two new Pokemon types, steel and dark. In addition, the original games and their remakes allow the player to revisit the Kanto region, and all of the gyms and towns from the very first Pokemon titles.
