While 99% of the world played Puzzle Bobble on the NeoGeo, the game was originally released in Japan on the Taito B-System using the OPNB-B chip (6 FM channels). When ported to NeoGeo, the music had to be converted to run on the Neo's standard OPNB (4 FM channels) chip. Here is a direct comparison recorded off of real chips. The original B-System version is richer and smoother, though the Neo did add some stereo effects for the MVS standard (B-System was JAMMA standard mono).
