QT30E - ReadySet Heroes - Poor Controls And No Tutorial
The newest video in the QT30E series is the #PS4 version of ReadySet Heroes, a game from Robot Entertainment. I played this game as i was curious whether there were people playing online and i was in the mood for a hack and slash style.
Unfortunately, there seemed no way to change the server i was playing on from Asia Pacific so i can't talk for the other regions, here in Japan there were no other players online. I could only try out the single player mode. This limited myself to just two of the four game modes, but because i was having such a bad time with the game i only tied one of them.
The first big issue i had with the game was that there's no tutorial. There was no option for a tutorial and when i played for the first time there were no on screen prompts as to what button did what. The game attempts to not clutter the screen but that backfires as the onscreen text is so small and the general lack of information this game provides makes all the extra space on screen seem wasteful.
The other big issue i had with the game were it's controls. for some reason, the characters seemed to feel heavy and not as responsive as i'd expected. they're slim, spry looking animals and yet that's not how the controls felt controlling them. there is another, bigger, issue with the controls in that the character animations take priority over them. you can't do anything until the character has finished their animation. and then, after the animation, there's typically a ever so slight pause before they can do something else. the combat ends up feeling like there's no fluidity to it, almost as if it's turn based game. This ends up feeling unfair as the enemies don't seem to be bound by the same rules as the player. they come across as faster, more mobile, and more of a pain to deal with.
The art is good, i really enjoyed the enemy character designs. the music isn't bad either. but it needs to be more than just something good to look at and listen to. unfortunately, it's just not enjoyable to play. With no tutorial, it's just not that accessible either. I couldn't find anyone online in my region and, with seemingly no ability to change region, i simply don't know the situation around the world. This all means that i can't recommend this game.
