This is part 1 of my Quake 4 playthrough.

I was always a big fan of the previous Quake games, but when Quake 4 was released I didn't even know about it. Admittedly, at the time I wasn't gaming much at all. I didn't own a console and wasn't playing anything much on the pc.
When I did come across it, I bought it and played through it. I remember thinking it was decent, but nothing special. I have come back to Quake 1 and 2 now and again over the years (not so much Quake 3 because I'm not much of a multiplayer), but never Quake 4... until recently when I decided to buy it from Steam on a whim.
I found that I really rather enjoyed it. Some of the criticism is valid, but I think it goes a little overboard. I thought even the gimmicky vehicle levels were okay and short enough not to be annoying... so here I am playing it again.
I shit out a little because I'm only playing on 'Corporal' but I'm putting that down to my lack of familiarity.
