Over 5 years ago (Sep 28, 2019), I was on the Quakecast with @dumptruckds and @jcr9001 to talk about my music and Quake (of course). Since this episode is hard to find on YouTube, dumptruck_ds gave me permission to reupload it and here it is. This is really the only podcast where I went in depth about my custom synthesizer and music. I have included some of the music from my various albums in the background so you can get a better idea of what we are talking about! And for Quake's sake, I include footage of me playing Quake LXIV on FTEQW where I have added the Quake 64 lighting to the PC Quake maps.
Since then the music scene for Quake has grown! Now there are a lot more musicians who are inspired by Quake itself, rather than dark ambient musicians whose music happens to fit Quake. Over the years it has been great to see the continuing support on my Bandcamp page for my music. I mentioned that this money went to supporting my mom, and it went to many good meals and house repairs, but unfortunately she has passed away. A lot of my feelings of her passing away went into the music of the album “Lesser” which deals with aging and loss. The money I get from bandcamp now goes into supporting independent game developers and musicians on bandcamp. So thank you for all of the years of support and it’s still going to worthy places!
At the end we talked about my profession as a scientist. I am still in science and academia! Since then I was on a project studying antiviral drugs (for influenza and corona viruses) and their segregation in cellular membranes as a step in improving drug targeting and efficacy. That project was completed and now I manage a lab studying material research. This lab studies a multitude of projects for enhancing plastics, increasing their recyclability, and improving natural composites.
