The new test version 4.2.0-rc2 of the Fedora-based, fully security-oriented desktop GNU/Linux distribution of Qubes OS , which mainly aims to provide security with strong isolation, has been announced by the Qubes team . The development team is said to be happy to announce the second release candidate for Qubes 4.2.0 ;Dom0 is said to be upgraded to Fedora 37. It is stated that Xen has been updated to version 4.17 and the default Debian template has been upgraded to Debian 12. It is stated that the default Fedora and Debian templates use Xfce instead of GNOME, while Fedora templates are said to provide SELinux support.The release notes are said to be available for the unified grub.cfg location for both UEFI and legacy boot, and details about the system that comes with PipeWire support . It is stated that an in-place upgrade from Qubes 4.1 to Qubes 4.2 is not yet possible, a clean install is required for this second release candidate.

A release candidate (RC) is a software build that has the potential to become a stable release, unless significant bugs are discovered in testing. Release candidates are intended for more advanced (or adventurous!) users who are comfortable testing early versions of software that are potentially buggier than stable releases.
