Oculus Quest
futuristic racing comes to the Quest, bright colourful cell shaded graphics, suitably futuristic tubular circuits and a techno soundtrack to match.
Wipeout this may not be, but Proteus takes everything that racing revolved did right on PSVR and improves upon it, the racing is balanced and the challenges rise gradually so that you never feel that they are out of reach meaning that you will replay some of the circuits a number of times to pass at the required grade, plus the addition of boss battle.
There a good selection of ships that you will need to upgrade through to help you progress in the career mode. There are a number of game modes that you will play through in the career, from plain racing to combat and time trials. plus an online multiplayer mode.
Controls are nice and simple, having two options, analogue and motion controlled, for me the analogue stick works perfectly, the game is as much about learning the circuits as it is being able to control your ship, knowing where boost pads are or rotating barriers to avoid will win or lose you a race that you had fought so well to gain the lead in.
There is nothing else like this on the Quest and the graphical leap and gameplay improvements made since the previous game make this another great addition to the Quest's game catalogue and one I would recommend if you enjoy futuristic racers.
