I don't know why, but for some reason I had it in my head that Serge was 30, which made his affection for Kid really creepy. Then Lynx calls him a boy and I looked it up and apparently he's some sort of teenager. Retroactively, it makes the game way more palatable. No idea how I got that impression.

It's hard to pin down my feelings about Radical Dreamers. It's a slow game, with text often crawling across the screen (at the fast text speed at that!) Traversing the corridors is a bit of a slog as you need to wait for those animations to play out each time.

Still, conceptually, I'm always down for a text adventure. I didn't have to worry too much about dying (although I wasn't sure after that goblin fight) as I was following a guide.

The plot was fine, I suppose. The mansion crawl both felt necessary for establishing the characters, but also overly long. Then you get the end sequence which feels like it dumps a lot on you too quickly. I went from not really getting the connection to Chrono Trigger, then a bit too much all at once. Overall, I don't think it really landed with me. I never really gained much affection for Kid, and Serge and Magil didn't really have much of a personality. It felt like it was resting on Kid's character, which wasn't enough to carry an entire two-hour long game.

Still, I'm glad I gave Radical Dreamers a shot. Maybe I'll gain more affection for it once I finally play Chrono Cross.
