And now here's the part where I write a longer description to game YouTube's 'rithm:
In this video, I take a look at some English onomatopoeia (words that phonetically imitate, resemble, or suggest the sound they describe), and rank them based on how close their spelling is to their pronunciation. To do this, I use phonetic transcriptions written in the International Phonetic Alphabet, or IPA.
The IPA is an alphabetic system of phonetic notation based primarily on the Latin script. It was devised by the International Phonetic Association in the late 19th century as a standardized representation of speech sounds in written form. It is used by people who make constructed languages (or conlangs) and also, y'know, actual linguists.
The rankings are subjective, the idea is shaky, and the video took me 10 minutes to record. Hope you'll enjoy!
