I've ranked a lot of bosses in video games, but rarely have I ranked games themselves. With Ranking Roulette, we'll change that by ranking a selection of random games within a given theme into tiers:
(S)upernatual: Nigh perfection, a masterpiece in the making. The sort of games you see contending on “best games of all time” lists. Reserved for the best of the best. Not a score you’ll see awarded often.
(A)scendant: Standout amongst peers outshining minor hiccups. Your contenders for yearly awards - those that distinguish themselves from the pack with bonafide quality dwarfing their handful of flaws.
(B)ravo: Admirable effort held back by mild issues. These are games you see getting 7’s and 8’s from review publications. Marred by enough issues to keep them from greater heights, they’re often well worth your time for what they do accomplish.
(C)umbersome: Average fare bogged down by major problems. Putting a fork in the industry standard of 7’s and 8’s defining the average, these are the true middle of the road games. They might have some good ideas, but they’re equally shackled by crucial design errors.
(D)on't Recommend: Subpar experiences plagued by extreme problems. Stinkers with a few compelling concepts if you’re willing to sift through overwhelming mistakes burying them.
(F)ailure: Accomplishes nothing of value. A complete and utter blight worthy of pure disdain. Reserved for the worst of the worst. Not a score you’ll see rewarded often.
