This new route saves 40 seconds as opposed to the old route and it allows you to get to the third cage without going to it the intended way. If you trigger the cutscene, you have to keep holding A and around a down-left angle on the control stick. From there, you can basically hit the cage as soon as you go in bounds again. Then when you do the ESJ at the end, if you don't get pushed forward like I did, you are able to get to the highest spring platform with Green Can right away to end the level pretty much.
