Record of Lodoss War - Advent of Kardis - Part 5 - Doing things out of order
There's actually not a lot enforcing order in this game. You can go most places without being blocked... Just in most cases the enemies will be too tough to deal with. I rescued Deedlit, but rather than continuing on to Canyon II, I turned around and headed to Narse's Cave. You're meant to go there later, but like I said, nothing stops you. It doesn't really get you anything besides maybe unlocking the pickaxe earlier (but unlocking the Decoding Book later...), so it's basically just for fun rather than any advantage.
The enemies would normally be pretty hard (and they do a lot of damage), but with my crit build getting better I can deal with the ogres. Golems are still pains though.
The Temple of Darkness has a lot of difficult spots as it likes to spawn tons of enemies around you, but since you can heal pretty much any time except when you are attacking, it's usually survivable. That, and if you have Firebolt you can cheese a lot of the encounters.
I took Laylia over Slayn because, while he can attack for more damage, her AoE healing is generally more useful if you get pinned to give you more chances to survive long enough to get a lucky escape. Also, IIRC she can cure petrification, though with two Stone Rings, one of which is +1, I might not be in such a bad spot even if I do get petrified.
