This is one of those animes that got many people of my generation into anime. It's a whole-hearted attempt at an honest epic fantasy drama without relying on fantasy game tropes that newer anime use.
I highly recommend this. It could just be nostalgia, but for most people who have seen this, it holds a special place for them.
