Recording a Harp: 7-mic setup in Studio 2
This harp is the only one of its kind in the country. It sounded amazing, and was played by a very talented lady. We set up this array of mics in an attempt to capture everything, and it worked out well.
TLM103
M149
a pair of Cloud JRS-34P ribbon mics in Blumlein
a pair of Earthworks sr-77
Yamaha subkick
Countryman DI for the pickup (yes the harp had a pickup)
Using a pair of Neve 1073 (for the TLM103 and M149), 4 channels of a 16-channel mic mixer by Manley (for the Earthworks, Countryman Type 85 DI box, and subkick), and 2 Chandler TG2 preamps (for the Clouds).
All this goes into a Control 24 console, into a Pro Tools HD rig.
This was at the school I attend, Ex'Pression College. The faculty, musicians, and studios here are incredible.
