RECOVER YOUR LOST SAVE FILE! Dead by Daylight Save File/Progress Loss Recovery Tutorial
LOOK HERE IN THE DESCRIPTION FOR A TEXT TRANSCRIPT OF THE TUTORIAL WITH TIMESTAMPS
Here are the steps in text form (I jumbled the process a little bit in the video):
1. 3:10 Exit Steam completely! 3:10
2. 0:54 Locate Steam\userdata\PlayerID\381210\remote 0:54
3. 2:14 Right Click remote and click on Properties. Click the Previous Versions tab. Open up the previous version, then minimize it. We only need it in the last few steps. 2:14
4. 3:03 Shift + Right Click on remote and click "Open Command Prompt Here". 3:03
5. 3:30 Type powershell into the command prompt. 3:30
6. 3:53 Go back to remote and click on Profile Saves. Then click the top bar and copy the directory location. 3:53
7. 4:04 Go back into the command prompt and type: clc "CTRL+V \*" and then hit enter. 4:04
8. 5:38 Go back into 381210 and delete remotecache.vdf. 5:38
9. 5:10 Open steam and make sure Steam Cloud Synchronization is enabled. 5:10
10. 5:59 Click play and you should be prompted by the Steam Cloud window. DON'T DO ANYTHING WITH THIS YET. MINIMIZE IT. 5:59
11. 6:12 Go back into your current 381210 folder and delete anything that is remaining (only the remote folder should be remaining at this point). 6:12
12. 6:29 Locate the backup remote and remotecache.vdf that we minimized earlier and copy the contents and paste them into the CURRENT 381210 folder. 6:29
13. 6:49 Go to the Steam Cloud window and hit "Upload to the Steam Cloud". 6:49
14. Your progress should be back!
Edit: There seems to be a new error that comes up. If Steam tells you that there is a Save Game Error or it say it cannot read the save data, try turning off Steam Cloud Synchronization and then adding your backup folder. Start the game and the error should be gone. Once your progress is back, you can re-enable Steam Cloud Synchronization.
