Welcome to Deconstruction Gaming’s Guide to Gaming Terms. In this video we will explore the term Release Candidate. So what does Release Candidate mean? A Release Candidate is a fully functional version of a game.
The Release Candidate is sometimes referred to as a beta version of the game. This game build will include all of the features and content of the game in a stable, ready to play format. There may still be some small issues, but all of the major bugs and flaws have been fixed. At this point the game will go through full beta testing internally and potentially externally to polish the game for full release. The game development team will make changes to fix issues, flaws, and bugs, but no new features or content should be added at this stage of development. Once the Release Candidate is verified, the final stage is for the game to “Go Gold” and be released for purchase.
