Here are a couple of probably less well-known Inflation RPG style games both by one developer, with an NES look and sound. I start with Re:Level1, then at 8:14 I switch to its sequel Re:Level2.

One notable and unusual feature in both these games is the hourglasses. You can buy them as IAP, but you can also obtain them by playing. I think one hourglass can reverse a lost battle, but I'm more interested in what you can buy with ten: a big pile of gold, or a random powerful piece of equipment. You begin either game with ten hourglasses (Don't spend them on lost fights right away!). In Re:Level1, as soon as a player reaches level 300 for the first time it is possible to basically skip way ahead. For example you can trade the ten hourglasses for 250,000 gold and then buy a weapon, an armor and a piece that raises all the stats quite a bit, all much stronger than what you had by that point.

Another unique feature in these two games is the people findable around the game world who each permanently raise your number of battles per attempt by one.

I really am not all that far into either one of these.
