Crew members from two Lancaster bombers that failed to return home during the Second World War have been buried in Germany with full military honours.

Two separate funerals took place at the Durnbach Military Cemetery, south of Munich, more than 70 years after the aircraft crashed.

Memorial services were held for the crews of Lancaster bomber ED427 of 49 Squadron, and Lancaster bomber JB221 of 97 Squadron.

But it's amid some controversy after a German archaeological team that discovered one of the crash sites and the remains of its crew said its efforts have not been recognised by the MoD.
