* REMAKE * DooM OPL soundtrack : RUNNING FROM EVIL
The aiming of DOOMSDAY is the biggest shit ever.
First it seemed like I fail badly because my first priority was to stay away from the evil FN button while firing (ctrl) and strafing (alt). Normally I record the visuals on my Macbook, and there is no windows-button as "buffer" between alt and ctrl; it's placed left from the spacebar. But today I saw how awful that sourceport is. First, it's not true to DooM. Some chaingunners in Map 15 start to fire as soon as I entered their line of sight. Yes, sounds correct, but it's not. This map is not designed for that. Some of them just start to act if they get hurt or if you are close to them. You can't survive if 10 chaingunners are shooting around while you fight the sergeants and zombieguys on the ground near to you.
The second thing is the most fucked up aim. It looks like a good attempt the engine "auto-aims" for you. But, after that aim, the shotgun pellets still spray around randomly. So, lets imagine some enemy is nearby a wall. In normal DooM (or a better sourceport) you just would fire the shotgun in the center of the viewpoint, because your opponent is pretty far away and the pellets would cover the whole screen on a horizontal line. But not in DOOMSDAY. There, the aim makes the Doomguy shoot to the right - near to the zombie. But after that, the pellets spread randomly. Mostly hitting the environment. Such a bullshit if you fire 4 shots and 3 hit anything else at random because of that fucked-up "auto-pilot". This makes sense with pistols, chainguns and probably rocket launcher, single-pellet hitscan weapons.. But every Doomer has to rely on his two shotguns.
The third thing making this game pretty unplayable is the horizontal aim. There is no real pattern. Sometimes you aim up on a target standing on a higher position sniping at you, sometimes not. It happens often you don't move a single pixel and the result will change every time you press ctrl.
That's why I used GZDooM for this one x)
