15 years ago today.... We as Americans suffered a tremendously heavy loss. One so immense the rate of recovery has all but dwindled.
Thousands of lives were lost, and millions more were gravely affected. It was a very dark day in our history as a race of beings on this planet. In this country.
15 years ago today we witnessed an event that would shock and shatter the world as it once was and transform it to what it has now become. America the Beautiful has become America the Concerned.
The World Trade Center, a once powerful icon of this nation, was attacked, and in the process, were also thousands of innocent lives who, on this day 15 years ago, had no clue what was going to happen to them. The World Trade Center was attacked.
More fear and panic were seen on this one day than all other days of the history of this world put together. It was a terrible experience for those who had to watch live this event and for those children who at the time were in school during this event. An event that all but brought America to its knees has since affected not only Americans, but other nations as well.
This day reminds us of just how small we really are. How audacious we can be in our endeavors. The ones that would cause terror and strike such into the hearts of others show themselves as the real demons of this world; the true monsters that lust to destroy what we have built.
The brave men and women who risked their lives when duty called upon them though may be gone, but they will not be forgotten. Even though we may soon pass as well, we will hold their spirits strongly with us. Their courage in the time of need shall be honored and respected, and so too will your fellow man and fellow woman. Your fellow human. On this day, we unite not as separate nations, but as one species as a whole.
The weak look up to the strong, and the strong admire the weak. Though we have our differences, it is with our hearts that we stand as one Earth, as one people under the sun and the stars. The World Trade Center, the innocent lives that were lost, and the ones that risked their lives will throughout eternity for as long as history remains be remembered as heroes. As soldiers. To fight is to protect, and to protect is to be selfless. We cannot be consumed by our petty differences anymore.
Hark now, the great Father, our Creator, who may hear our voice as we speak out against the mindless destruction of ourselves. We seek thee out to help us as a species. As one species. A species that still has much to learn and to understand about not only ourselves, but the rest of the world and whatever else may be out there.
I, Leonard Patton, Descendant of General George Patton, stand here today honoring those that risked their lives 15 years ago today. I show them my respect and my gratitude and thus do I deem myself thankful to be a part of the world and part of its history. I respect also the innocent ones that lost their lives 15 years ago today and I send out my thoughts to the families and friends of those that lost their lives in that tragic event. And I stand here to remind not only myself but others as well that we are separated only by our differences and our beliefs. We may come from different places and we may speak in different tongues, but as a species in the darkest hours, our hearts beat as one.
I will always remember 9/11. And I will always honor those that go above and beyond the call of duty and risk their own lives for the sake of those that they wish to protect. We are not just America or Russia or even Pakistan anymore. We are Planet Earth.
