Resident Evil 4 (2005), EDHKONMER Challenge Run - (Part 06, Final) - Last Stretch
Welcome to my EDHKONMER run of Resident Evil 4 UHDE! Be sure to check the full description for anything related to the video that you might want to know.
ED - Easy Difficulty
- Start with the Shotgun
- Shotgun Shells stack to 25 per inventory slot, up from 15
- Enemies do less damage, have less health and are much less aggressive
- More ammo drops
- The Castle Gate Key room (3-1), garden maze (3-2), King’s Grail room (4-1) and clock tower (4-1) are all skipped
- The room after the clock tower contains a single armoured Garrador, down from one normal Garrador and one armoured Garrador
- The spiked ceiling in the mines (4-3) doesn’t activate but the type 3 plagas remain
- Quicktime events are easier
- The Tactical Vest is available
This difficulty is not available on NTSC versions of the game.
HKO - Handgun & Knife Only
- I can only use the Handgun and knife to attack. Melee attacks are an exception to this rule and I would likely impose a limitation on them if I wasn’t using an enemy randomiser.
NM - No Merchant
I cannot use the merchant under any circumstance, be it for increasing maximum attaché case size, upgrading my Handgun or anything that would make the run easier in any way. I also chose not to sell any items during this run, but that doesn't make a difference for the run itself.
ER - Enemy Randomiser
A third-party mod that randomises the placement of almost all enemies is used in this run. The safe enemies fix is enabled to prevent crashes in certain areas.
UHDE - Ultimate HD Edition
In addition to playing the official Steam version of Resident Evil 4 with the enemy randomiser installed, I also have the Resident Evil 4 HD Project to make the game look far better, along with the 4GB Patch and RE4 Tweaks with some quality of life tweaks enabled, but nothing that changes the gameplay in any way. Tweaks include disabling Vsync, fixing the blur effect across the whole game, disabling film grain, enabling borderless windowed mode, the original knife sound effect from the Gamecube version and more. None of it is game changing but there are a lot of small things you may notice are different which almost certainly come from RE4 Tweaks.
I intended to use the increased health pools option that the enemy randomiser provides to make the run a bit harder, but I must have forgotten to select it when I generated the seed and began the run. If I was to use the same seed but with the increased health active then the randomised enemies would be different so I chose to leave it alone. Unfortunately, I only noticed this at the end of chapter 4. ;~;
The seed I used in the enemy randomiser for this run is “69986004” if you would like to try it yourself. To get exactly the same result, disable every checkbox except for "Randomize Enemies" and "Random Enemy HP" with the "Random HP range" on the right-click menu set to Normal.
With the Resident Evil 4 remake out soon, I wanted to do some absurd run that no sane human being would ever think of to give some form of appreciation to the near-masterpiece that is its predecessor. My original plan for this run didn’t involve the enemy randomiser but Easy difficulty is an absolute cakewalk so I wanted something to go along with it to spice things up. Ultimately, I had the idea to extract the core of the Handgun/Knife Only No Merchant run and make it into something that I can call my own and I think this run was a very fun idea that I may do more of or expand on in the future.
The absolutely masterful guide on how to complete Professional difficulty with only the knife and Handgun can be found here:
