Resident Evil: Director's Cut PS5 4K - Part 10 - Ending + Review
If you have all three MO Disks, which you should by now, these are the locations to where you can find the pass code output device.
1. Private Room - Laboratory B3
2. Morgue - Laboratory B3
3. Power Maze 2 - Laboratory B3
With all three, you can now save Chris, but first, activate the power to the elevator. This is in Power Maze 3 - Laboratory B3. Once that's done, head back to the save room and take with you a Magnum and any remaining bullets for it. You really only need roughly 4-5, but I always take extra just in case. Also, a healing item too.
Head up the elevator and defeat Tyrant. After taking it down with several magnum rounds, now to escape the Laboratory. Head back down the elevator and stop by the cell near the stairwell to rescue Chris, if you managed to use the MO Disks. With him, head back up to the entrance of the Laboratory and the emergency door should open. Head through the hallway and pick up the battery. Use it and ride the elevator up.
Grab the flare and then use it on the heliport. Since Barry died, you won't fight Tyrant on the heliport and get the Bad Ending! This was because I didn't wait for him during the rope scene in revisiting the mansion. Oh well!

Now onto my review...
I absolutely loved this game more than I thought I would, as this was one of the first games I ever played, along with Mario Party 1. So does it still hold up? 100% and even more so than many games released later on. Let's get into the positives and negatives.
+ (Positives)
+ Pacing - Nothing short of phenomenal and one of the best in any games I've ever played.
+ Story - Simple and engaging without being overly complex like later entries.
+ Music - Iconic
+ Location/Setting - Iconic
+ Dialogue - Aged extremely well and is iconic for all the wrong reasons.
+ Gameplay - Simple and straightforward, but requires you to think your inventory through.
+ Graphics - Pre-rendered backgrounds held up well, considering this came out in 1996.
+ Replayability - Over half a dozen different endings between Chris and Jill.
+ Fixed Camera Angles - Adds suspense to what's around the corner.
- (Negatives)
- Controls - Obviously didn't age that well, but considering this came out in 1996, this was pretty much the standard before analog sticks came out. And they eventually cleared it up with Director's Cut featuring auto-aiming to help with said issue.
That's really it. I genuinely love this game and the fact this aged so well having come out over 25 years ago is a testament to why this game became so influential within the gaming community. The pre-rendered backgrounds were great and still are for the charm they add, the music and setting is iconic (not including the DualShock Clown Farts version), and the pacing is still incredible and it never slows at any point. Controversial take, but I still think this is better over the HD Remake 2002 in terms of pacing. Didn't like the mansion redesign nearly as much and something about the bright lights in the original combined with the lack of sound effects adds to the atmosphere of it all.
It's pretty sad that I've enjoyed this game more than a lot of newly released games, but I think it illustrates a really great point. Graphics only go so far, but what keeps everyone coming back to a game like this is two things: exceptional gameplay and pacing. And Resident Evil more than succeeds in both of those categories.
Resident Evil: Director's Cut - 10/10 (A classic)
Resident Evil: Director's Cut on PS5 - 10/10 (The different options for screen formatting plus the rewind feature allowing you to replay earlier parts if you died are amazing add-ons for this game)
Shinji Mikami set the standard by creating this massive franchise, and it all started with this game. A true masterpiece.
"But just take a look at THIS!" - Barry Burton, 1996
