ResonadoLabs Redefining the Shape of Sound.
0THE BEGINNING.
The genesis of the concept that would eventually become Resonado Labs was a moment between father and son. LH Cho, a former engineering executive at LG, and his son Brian were working on a project together in South Korea. They were designing and building their own digital photo frame and after deciding that they wanted for the frame to have a sound system, they set out to find the perfect component. The two found that their biggest challenge was finding a speaker driver that would fit the thin frame design, fit the budget, and most importantly, have impeccable sound quality. To their surprise, they found that no existing speaker type met these parameters. This problem was the original spark.
THE TECHNOLOGY.
Eventually, they engineered and patented what is now Flat Core Speaker™ technology; a novel type of electrodynamic speaker transducer designed with a dual parallel bar magnet and planar voice coil array mounted perpendicularly to a flat “racetrack” diaphragm. It was a speaker type that would be able to retain a thin profile at virtually any size without compromising sound quality. However, the technology needed further development to make it commercially viable, and at the time there wasn’t enough market demand to raise the capital required. The project was temporarily tabled, although LH continued to refine the technology on the side while he built and successfully exited two companies. In the meantime, Brian decided to go abroad to further his education.
THE COMPANY.
While studying at the University of Notre Dame in the United States, Brian decided that it was finally the right time to commercialize the technology he had been working on with his father. He sought out co-founders to help build a company, and soon found Peter Moeckel and Erikc Perez-Perez, both of whom had startup experience, in finance and marketing respectively. With Brian as CEO and LH at the helm of engineering, the startup successfully launched a proof of concept in 2017, a portable Bluetooth speaker implementing an early version of a driver designed with FCS technology architecture. The team now knew that the market was ready. Soon after, they officially introduced Resonado Labs to the world.
