The 3DS is my favorite videogame system of all time.
It brings me back to times when things were simpler, back when there was less to worry about in the world. A time where I wasn't hyperfocused on everything being so fast and snappy.
Looking back on it, the original Wii and 3DS weren't the best in terms of usability. They prioritized accessibility to a fault, making their menus clunky and slow to navigate. Still, what they lacked in the snappy, fastness of modern systems, they made up for in charm.
The 3DS isn't my favorite system just because of its phenomenal game library, many titles being my favorites from Nintendo; it's my favorite system because it painted my imagination as a kid and made me who I was back then. From customizing my theme, to playing Animal Crossing: New Leaf and Smash 3DS at school with friends, nervous about taking my precious system outside of my house, but the risk always paying off, to creating my first ever social media account with mudkipz1234 joining Miiverse back in 2013, the 3DS is a huge chunk of my childhood, and always will be.

As I write this, I'm exactly 7 days from moving out on my own for the first time. As the 3DS and Wii U close their doors for good, I can't help but feel it was fated that a huge chunk of my childhood would fade away for good as I take my final step into adulthood. I can't really describe how all of this makes me feel; do I feel sad to say goodbye to the past? Yeah, but... Do I feel happy to begin a new journey into my future? I do, but...
Perhaps this feeling of cognitive dissonance is just part of who I am. That aside...

Thank you, those developers and engineers at Nintendo who gave us this wonderful system that sparked joy and creativity in millions of hearts.
Our memories of streetpass, of buying and rating games, of customizing our home menus, of catching badges with a claw machine, of haggling with donuts for cheaper games, of shooting evil heads with our friends' faces on them, of living life with our miis, of going on grand adventures, of living life as mayor of a small village, of creating broken custom characters and fighting them against eachother, of getting goodies at McDonald's off of their wifi, of browsing the web slowly and clunkily, of downloading random games just because they look interesting to us... Those memories will stay in our hearts forever.
