Retro-Bit Tribute 64 2.4 GHz Wireless Controller | HNE Games
On Friday, June 3, 2022 at 6 PM ET, we are checking out the #Retro-#Bit #Tribute 64 2.4 GHz Wireless Controller. This controller can be used with either a Nintendo 64 or via devices that accept USB due to its wireless adapters. For my purposes and due to the lack of availability of classic N64 controllers for the Nintendo Switch, I bought this controller for the Nintendo Switch Online Pass functionality. As I do not own a N64, we will not be covering that adapter.
I have spent a week researching Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pass N64 compatible controllers. The contenders were the Hyperkin Admiral, Retro-Bit Tribute64 and Retro Fighters Brawler64. I watched a number of reviews, read some articles and have come to the conclusion that if you cannot wait until at least summer to get a N64 controller for your Switch and want more features, then buy the Retro-Bit Tribute64 controller (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B091QTLZ39). Continue reading to see how I reached this conclusion.
Hyperkin Admiral - There are numerous complaints about quality. I have owned a number of Hyperkin products and never had such issues. But, the Admiral has preset buttons and functions in which to change the presets, but not much else. I would like to add that it does come with a N64 wireless adapter.
Retro Fighters Brawler64 - While this controller looks to mimic a pro controller, the Switch simply does not allow for button customization on this device. Just like with the Hyperkin Admiral, there is no rumble.
Retro-Bit Tribute64 - People seem to appreciate the quality, despite it sort of looking like the Xbox Duke controller. It is also compatible with the original N64 and has built-in rumble. A quick firmware update via a Windows PC makes it compatible with the Expansion Pass. Also, some buttons can be switched via the controller's macros. I would like to add that it does come with a N64 wireless adapter.
NOTE: The input lag seen on screen is the result of a delay caused by the digital video recorder and not the product.
